New Year, New Building!

Evergreen Day School (EDS) has begun construction on a new state of the art school facility on the Sancta Maria grounds where the school currently resides. The stand alone building at 795 Concord Avenue overlooks Fresh Pond golf course on Concord Ave. The new school is scheduled to open for the 2021-2022 school year and will be 100% COVID-19 compliant.

The new school will offer:

  • Larger classrooms with operable windows, dedicated bathrooms and handwashing stations
  • New dedicated HVAC system
  • Brand new, private outdoor playground
  • Maker space for arts and crafts
  • Motor room / event space

“We are excited for the opportunity to design a school specific to the needs of toddler and preschool children in our care.” said Debbie Fay, Director of Finance and Operations at EDS. “This school year was all about proving EDS can surpass any obstacles and continue to keep our friends happy and safe and it will be perfect timing to start off a fresh school year in a brand new building!”

Thanks to the hard work of Director Christina Foster, EDS reopened September 2020 amidst the COVID pandemic with reduced capacity and adapted operations. The new building will allow EDS to operate at full capacity safely and comfortably in a forward-thinking space ready to meet any challenges that may come post-COVID.

It is an ambitious construction project that will completely revamp the former convent to create a curated space for the school.

“We feel so excited to have engaged the services of the creative folks at Davis Square Architects and the highly talented team at ZVI Construction to pull it all together. The two have teamed up on several previous projects, most recently at a school in Framingham. The pairing has proven to be an extremely successful collaboration, which provides us much confidence” said life-long Cambridge resident Tucker Lewis (owner of Diesel Cafe, Bloc Cafe and Forge Baking Co.) who is a Board member at EDS and the Co-Chair of the planning + construction effort.

EDS is a non-profit school and has already fundraised over $100,000 from it’s current families and alumni for the project. To donate toward the project, you can find more information on their GoFundMe page.

Evergreen Day School has been a beloved and well-respected preschool for children in the greater Cambridge-Belmont area for the past thirty-one years. Known for its nurturing, high quality, play-based learning model and its exemplary teachers and administrators, the school has an excellent reputation and has been awarded “#1 Preschool in Cambridge” for six years in a row by Reader’s Choice Awards.
